During this ongoing COVID-19 lockdown, my niece (studing in 1st-class/grade) and I are determined to stay busy and engaged. We regularly brainstorm for indoor activity ideas that cater to her interests. This time, she settled on a fantastic project - planting seeds! To ensure her safety, I provided her with options that didn't require going outdoors.

Under my constant elderly guidance, she took the following steps to achieve her goal:

First, I helped her create mini planters by making holes in both ends of six eggs. The wider end had a larger hole, while the narrower end had a tiny hole for water drainage:

Next, she unleashed her creativity by painting the empty eggshells with different attractive colors and patterns.

Then, she filled the eggshells with the good soil that I carefully brought from our lawn.

.

After that, she joyfully sowed the following seeds in the eggshells: Sunflower, Tomato, Green Chilies, Watermelon, and Coriander.

.

My niece demanded that I also plant some seeds in a planter made of eggshells. So at her request I planted a few cuttings of Office-time plant in an eggshell planter.

.

After sowing seeds my niece placed the eggshell planters in a soil-filled container and placed it indoors, away from direct sunlight.

.

Every two days, she diligently watered the seeds, eagerly awaiting the results.

.

And then, the miracle happened! One by one, the seeds sprouted, and my niece's excitement kept reaching new heights throughout the entire project. Her enthusiasm was inspiring, and we both celebrated each tiny triumph.

This lockdown gardening adventure not only kept us busy but also taught us valuable lessons about patience, nurturing, and the joys of watching something we care for grow and thrive.

Our this gardening activity was actually a full of fun adventure during this ongoing COVID-19 lockdown. We are glad that we made an effort in this direction.

My one gamla Kitchen garden - 180918Tu

My One Gamla Kitchen Garden   . (An adventure with Green chillies in 2018) Version: 180918Tu . For some time, may be years, now it is almost my habit that I sow seeds of different vegetables and fruits in one or more gamlas (flower pots) or kyari (flower bed, plant bed) of our lawn. I do this only for testing what happens: whether they germinate or not. In most cases they do germinate. A few months ago a Chilli plant (facing heaven pepper 'skyward-pointing chili pepper') whose seeds I once sowed in a gamla (flower pot) and that was giving it's vegetable/fruit frequently, started to show signs of decay. Despite my efforts to save that Chilli plant it died, after trying to live. After a few days of that Chilli plant's death one day while I was feeling sad for that now dead Chilli plant and watering my other plants in our lawn I saw a green Chilli hanging from a small Chilli plant in a nearby gamla (flower pot). View of that hanging green Chilli, partially hidden behind Chilli plant's leaves, made me happy again. After almost a week of that Chilli sighting I took IshI, my 3.75 years old niece, to show that Chilli. By now color of that green Chilli was changed to red color. Because IshI for the first time saw Chilli hanging from it's plant in real life so she liked and enjoyed that moment/experience very much. That excitement and happiness of IshI made me to save that Chilli by taking it's photos. . I am sharing photos, I took of that red chilli, in the following. . . . . . . . . . . . . . After taking that ripe Chilli's many photos I helped IshI pluck it from plant and now that Chilli is in process of drying. After that I and IshI will again sow it’s seeds in some gamla (flower pot). So then our experiment cum adventure will start over again . . . . If there are any mistakes then I will surely remove them whenever found. .
